Guanajuato Cohousing

Hello everyone! I'm Jan from the city of Guanajuato. Have lived in Mexico nearly 25 years, 23 of them in Guanajuato. Originally came here because my then new husband had lived and worked in Mexico in the 1980s and loved it here. He wanted to return. I sold my house in Florida, packed up everything, including my grand piano and drove on down. Didn't speak a word of Spanish back then! The marriage only lasted a couple of years, but by then I had fallen in love with the country and the people. Had a job I loved, too! So, I stayed here on my own. Pioneer woman! ??Learned Spanish, built my own house, formed lasting friendships and a support network. Recently retired and plan to live the rest of my life here. Though there were some bumps along the way, never regretted my decision.
Since my early retirement in August 2018, I've set my energies toward a new project. From August 2005, I purchased land and built a house on a beautiful ridge overlooking the city on one side and the Presa Soledad on the other. I planned on bringing my parents, then already in their 90s, down to live with me, so built it all with them in mind - one storey, accessible inside and out. They came to visit once and loved it! Sadly, they both passed away before I'd finished the house. SO, have been living in this 3 bedroom/2 bath house the last 13 years by myself. Started thinking about my OWN aging and decided it wouldn't be wise to become a hermit alone up here on the mountain!
Started researching. Discovered cohousing and BINGO! That's the project. I'm the sole owner of the property, free and clear - no mtg., liens, back taxes or other impediments. Plan grew to form a civil association and invite a dozen other people to share the house + garage/apartment and the land and have everyone (including me!) build a cottage near what will become the communal house. https://web.facebook.com/groups/154745301831766/The project became formal through the creation of the FB group, and we now have 8 founding members. Looking for 4-6 more members, either couples or singles. This is where you can find the most up-to-date information, progress reports and meet others who are interested in the project.
