Long Term Visa

Hello,

My wife and I are planning on moving to Portugal with our 2 young girls in November from the US. We have an appointment with the consulate in SF this Thursday the 23rd of Aug.

We are applying for a long term visa and will eventually be applying for a residency visa in Portugal.

We have a lot of the paperwork but we are also getting confused from different websites saying what exactly we need. I just saw that we need an FBI background check? Is it necessary to show a return flight if we are unclear whether we will be there 6 months or 6 years?? I would like to get a job teaching when we are there and we are also interested in investing in real estate. My wife is a professional artist and would like to contribute to the art world there as well. What would be our best approach to applying so that we reveal our intentions to stay and it is well received?

I love this expatexchange website and have looked through it. Can someone show me the exact list of paperwork and procedures needed to successfully apply for a long term visa in SF? This would be very helpful.

We are working hard to get everything in order and are very grateful for this forum. I’m sure it has been posted many times but I am having trouble finding exactly what we need.

Thank you so much
