Questions on Vietnam

Living in Vietnam&&&&&&&
How do expats live?
Is it an accepting community to new comers?
Can Expats become part of the Vietnam community too?

What to take over to Vietnam?

Do we take clothes, medicine, furniture, glass, cutlery, all household appliances etc?

What about toys, books and childrens items?

Health Care

What sort of health facilities are available to expat families?

What about having a baby?

What if the birth of the baby ends up as an emergency Caesar?

What if the baby has allergies ? Eg: lactose intolerant, Gluten intolerant, asthma etc?

Do they have chemists? Or do we need to bring things like histamine for our daughters allergies etc?

What are the hospitals like?

What about the health warnings issued such as dengue, diptheria, hep A, malaria, etc? How do expats and their children deal with these?

With the chicken virus does this mean you cant eat chicken and pig?

A website said the agriculture was often fertilised with faeces? How does this impact on the fruit and veg you buy and consume?

Living with Children in Hanoi (our daughter is now 2) / Education

Is it easy to get around with a pram?

Do they have pre-schools for expat children?

What about mixing with children outside of pre-schools etc?

What about schooling, what sort of level are they at, who operates the schools, is the curriculum a western standard? What are the costs? What are the facilities like compared to western standards?

We love to walk, is there anywhere safe to walk? Can I walk the streets? Is the traffic really bad and dangerous like some websites suggest?

Accommodation

Are the places that are rented have furniture, dinner sets, cutlery, glasses, linen etc?

Is it best to bring our own furniture rather than leave it behind?

Is it expensive or difficult to bring furniture, household goods etc in when an expat is moving in?

What sort of cost would it be for a 4 bedroom apartment on one of the lakes in the city?

Culture / Vietnamese

We are excited about living again in a new culture. Any books or sites you can recommend to prepare us would be great. We also want to learn the language and be able to ensure we are seen as expats with a true appreciation for the people, their beliefs, their country and contribute towards the same.

Budget

What sort of things do we budget for when living over in Vietnam?

Where do people shop for food?

Nanny, pre-school, school, food, accommodation, alcohol, eating out, clothing etc????

Other

I really want to understand the trials and tribulations a mother and wife face for her family and children?

Communications

How is phone and internet access?
