Anyone living in Campeche?

¿Alguien vive en Campeche? ¿Lo que te gusta y no te gusta de Campeche?

I´ve read some about it (tourist books, history, blogs etc) and will read more. I plan on visiting, but was hoping for some opinions and information from someone actually living there now (or recently)

So far my favorite city in Mexíco is Guanajuato, which is surprising since I have rarely lived far from an ocean. I like the colorful homes, hills, winding streets, European feel, balconies, alleys, winding roads, rooftops, views and the art. I like that it is a walkable city. Unfortunately, I think it is too cold for me to live there, though I definitely will visit and who knows... The colonial cities in Mexíco are beautiful.

I've been familiarizing myself with the Mexican states and right now I'm reading about cities in the Yucatán. What I dislike about the coastal cities so far is the tourism, resorts and the many apartments and luxury condos. I would like to live in a small house. I also don't care to ever see a Walmart, big box store or a strong American influence and presence, though having access to Home Depot and such can be quite helpful at times. I just don't want that part of my every day life.

I am tracking the weather of a number of Mexican cities on my phone. I do realize it is winter... and I have read about the yearly weather for many cities. Weather sites report quite a range in humidity for Campeche. Is it really unbearable? Does one walk around soaking wet because of the humidity? Does it damage everything?

I like the Caribbean feel of the east coast of Mexico. Campeche has a beautiful malecón and the city seems quite walkable and much easier to get around on bike than hilly Guanajuato. I haven't seen any homes similar to those in Guanajuato with the enclosed garden area, rooftop and multiple levels, but perhaps they are there. How is the medical care?

Any input would be appreciated. Gracias.

This is a really great forum. I've enjoyed reading many of the posts and really appreciate the help offered.
