What is it like to retire in Atami?

"Atami, is a popular retirement destination known for its hot springs, beautiful beaches, and mild climate. Life for a retiree in Atami can be quite peaceful and fulfilling, with a variety of activities to engage in. The city is home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Atami Castle, MOA Museum of Art, and the Kinomiya Shrine, which provide opportunities for retirees to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Japan. The city is also known for its beautiful gardens, such as the Atami Plum Garden and the Akao Herb and Rose Garden, where retirees can enjoy leisurely walks while taking in the stunning views. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, there are several hiking trails and golf courses in the area. The city's hot springs, or 'onsen', are a major draw, offering a relaxing and therapeutic experience. While Atami does not have a bustling nightlife like Tokyo or Osaka, there are a number of restaurants and bars where retirees can enjoy a quiet evening. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year, such as the Atami Sea Fireworks Festival and the Atami Baien Ume Matsuri, which provide opportunities for socializing and entertainment. As for the expat community, while not as large as in some other Japanese cities, there is a growing number of foreign retirees in Atami. The city's welcoming atmosphere, combined with its natural beauty and cultural attractions, make it an attractive destination for retirees from around the world. There are also language schools and community centers that offer Japanese language classes and cultural activities, helping expats to integrate into the local community," said one retiree in Atami.
