What is it like to retire in Ito?

"Life for a retiree in Ito, can be quite serene and culturally enriching. Ito is a city located on the eastern shore of the Izu Peninsula, known for its hot springs, beautiful coastlines, and lush greenery, making it an ideal place for retirees who enjoy nature and tranquility. There isn't a large expat community in Ito, but the city is quite welcoming to foreigners. The locals are friendly and there are English-speaking communities in nearby cities like Yokohama and Tokyo, which are easily accessible by train. Cultural attractions are abundant in Ito. The city is home to several historical sites, including the Jogasaki Coast, Izu Teddy Bear Museum, and the Mount Omuro, a dormant volcano. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year, such as the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Ito Fireworks Festival, which are great opportunities for retirees to immerse themselves in the local culture. Recreational activities in Ito are largely centered around its natural beauty. Retirees can enjoy leisurely walks along the Orange Beach, hiking in the Jogasaki Coast, or relaxing in one of the many hot springs in the city. Golfing is also a popular activity, with several courses located in and around Ito. Nightlife in Ito is relatively quiet compared to larger cities like Tokyo. However, there are a number of restaurants and bars where retirees can enjoy a quiet evening. The city also has several traditional Japanese inns, known as ryokans, which often have their own private hot springs and serve traditional Japanese meals. Overall, life for a retiree in Ito, Japan, offers a balance of tranquility, cultural experiences, and recreational activities. It's a place where one can enjoy a slower pace of life, while still having access to the amenities of larger cities," remarked one retiree in Japan.
