How do I find a place to live in Mecca?
We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:
"Finding a place to live in Mecca, involves several steps. First, you need to determine your budget and the type of accommodation you're looking for. This could range from a small apartment to a larger family home. Next, you should research the different neighborhoods in Mecca to find one that suits your lifestyle and needs. Some popular residential areas include Al Aziziyah, Al Shisha, Al Noor, and Al Maabda. Once you have a clear idea of what you're looking for, you can start your search. There are several online real estate platforms that list properties for rent or sale in Mecca, such as Bayut, Property Finder, and Makkah Real Estate. These websites allow you to filter your search based on location, property type, price, and other factors. You can also hire a local real estate agent to help you in your search. They can provide valuable insight into the local market, help negotiate prices, and guide you through the legal process of renting or buying a property in Saudi Arabia. Once you've found a property you're interested in, it's important to visit it in person. This will give you a chance to inspect the property, check its condition, and see if it matches the description and photos. If you decide to proceed with the property, you'll need to negotiate the terms of the lease or purchase agreement. In Saudi Arabia, it's common to pay rent in advance for the entire year, although some landlords may accept semi-annual or quarterly payments. Finally, once the agreement is signed, you'll need to register it with the local municipality. This is a legal requirement in Saudi Arabia and helps protect your rights as a tenant or homeowner. Remember, finding a place to live in a new city or country can take time, so it's important to be patient and thorough in your search," said one expat who made the move to Mecca.
