What are healthcare services like in Durban?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Durban. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in Durban, are a mix of public and private providers. The public healthcare system is government-funded and accessible to all citizens, but it is often overcrowded and under-resourced. On the other hand, the private healthcare system offers high-quality services with modern facilities and well-trained staff, but it is expensive and mostly accessible to the middle and upper classes. There are several hospitals in Durban, including the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, which is one of the largest in the country. There are also numerous clinics and health centers spread across the city. Despite the challenges, the city has made significant strides in improving healthcare, particularly in areas such as HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. However, issues such as long waiting times, staff shortages, and inadequate infrastructure remain prevalent in the public healthcare sector," said a member in Durban, South Africa.
