What are healthcare services like in East London?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in East London. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in East London are a mix of public and private providers. The public healthcare system is government-funded and accessible to all citizens, but it is often characterized by long waiting times, staff shortages, and limited resources. On the other hand, the private healthcare sector offers high-quality services with modern facilities and well-trained staff, but it is expensive and thus inaccessible to many residents. There are several hospitals in East London, including Frere Hospital, which is one of the largest public hospitals in the Eastern Cape. There are also numerous clinics and health centers spread across the city, providing primary healthcare services such as immunizations, maternal care, and HIV/AIDS treatment. Despite the challenges, the government is making efforts to improve the healthcare system, such as implementing the National Health Insurance scheme to make healthcare more affordable and accessible," remarked another expat in East London, South Africa.
