Flying your Dog or Cat to Ecuador

View/Add Comments (0 Comments) |

The USDA requirements are a good starting place for the basic inoculations and time frame for planning to bring your DOG or CAT to Ecuador -- for example rabies vaccines must be current as of 60 days before entry (it takes 30 days for the vaccine to become active in the animal's body) http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pet_travel/pet_travel.shtml click for DOG or CAT and you will open a PDF file with all the information in English and Spanish. And you do not have to call ahead to Ecuador unless you have a LARGE DOG (over 100 pounds dog and crate travelling cargo) Currently it is not necessary to have the documents translated to Spanish because the Signature (legalization) and the STAMP (certification) you get at the Ecuador Consulate makes it unnecessary. Make a reservation early with your airline and check for breed restrictions for certain travel dates. It must be cool enough at take off for your pet's health and safety! (Under 80degrees at take off) And you must meet certain weight restrictions for pet and carrier, and the carrier must be correct with the correct fasteners. Please - be considerate - let real service animals fly in the cabin, our pets do okay below NOTE: Birds require additional paperwork
