View/Add Comments (0 Comments) |
Monigotes or Año Vieejos is the Ecuadorian tradition of scarecrow-like effigies burned at midnight to ring in the new year. Some places like Salinas are known for having remarkable paper machier figures of popular cartoon creatures 9 feet tall, others are are more home made. Often they are filled with fire works and fire crackers and these also pieces of papers with messages of things that went wrong to explode the bad luck and start the year fresh. Salinas and the coast) has huge bonfires of the beach. The towns and cities of the mountains have pyres on the streets. The exploosions are incredible!
