An Expat Talks about Living in Please note, the mountain people speak naturally a lot slower, coast people speak much faster....not sure if that matters. Note also that not all is Spanish here, like living in Houston where there are a lot of Spanish words in common use, here it is Quechua, which is descended from Inca language. Words here and there. There is an online dictionary to use. Common words are family ñaña is sister and cold (achachi), hung over from party ( chuchaki) and of course la yapa (something additional with purchase, like you buy a bunch of potatoes and they give you a bit more or a tangerine). Makes life more interesting. Never had anyone speaking only Quichua but lots of words here and there., Ecuador
