Using NIF in restaurants

Hello!

Someone told me that you can use your NIF in restaurants to get a "discount" the same as you can in grocery stores and such. Does anyone have experience with this, and how you would go about giving it to your waiter? I have a temporary residence card with my NIF on it, but it expires soon and my renewal appointment is not until June (I know having the appointment date extends my permit until then). So could I show the waiter my residence card with the NIF even though the card itself is expired? Or should I bring my official NIF document and let them know when I ask for the bill?

to 'Indymcw22": The NIF is never renewed and offers no discounts in any restaurant or other shop. It tracks your expenditures on the Portuguese "IRS-like" site, Financas.

You dont get discount with nif, but tax rebate on some services. Like healthcare, travel, food, etc. It has limit to few hundreds euros. Tax bit will be used to offset your annual tax.

You can order online at e-factura card with nif, that can be swiped at checkout and your nif will be linked to that bill.

Nif number is for life and doesnt expire. It's personal tax number.
