We asked expat moms who gave birth in Switzerland about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Arrange everything first; including discussing an emergency c-section and using epidural. Change doctors if you have ANY doubts. Go home if it's not going well," remarked another expat who made the move to Bulach, Switzerland.

"Be prepared for paperwork. Swiss hospitals require a range of maternity documents such as hospital application forms and proof of residence. Coordinate with your health insurance provider in advance and ensure you understand exactly what type of birth care coverage is provided. Research birthing options according to your preferences - from homebirths to midwives, hospitals, and other childbirth professionals in your area. Look into prenatal classes and support services available in your local community. Make sure to build a good relationship with your doctor, understand their approach to labour and delivery and ask lots of questions. Lastly, get familiar with the local maternity leave regulations such as the duration and rate of payment of maternity leave," explained one expat living in Switzerland.
