Quito a lot of questions for living in Quito

8 years ago
Hi all,,
I'm now living with my wife in Quito. Currently we're renting a bedroom from her parents, however they have a large space with a kitchen set aside for us to move in to when we're ready for it. Once my wife has paid back some money to her uncle, we can think about buying some futniture and moving in there. That will happen this month :D

So my questions are;
1) Where is a good place for us to buy furniture? I'm thinking sofa, armchairs, double bed, cabinets and dining table & chairs

2) Where can we buy electronics? Anything from small appliances like a vacuum cleaner and toasters up to TV's.

3) I'm happy to buy second hand, or is that a badd idea here?

4) I'm quite sporty and I miss it back home. I can't play contact sports because of my kidney transplant, so is there anything that you guys can suggest for me?

5) Now I'm here for the long term, I'm going to start coming to a few events. Is it OK for me tto bring my wife along, even though she isn't a member? I'm guessing there will be an extra fee for her

6) I've decided that because of the costs of buying a car here compared to back home in the UK, as well as the availability of public transport here - which I don't have where I live in the UK - I'm not going to buy a car at least for a few years. My wife owns a car anyway so when I've got my licence she's going to let me drive that. Is it a good idea for me to wait on a car, or should I actually start thinking about it?

7) As I said above, in the near future my wife and I will be renting a space from my in-laws. Howevver my mother-in-law is very nice and sweet, but is also very controlling and likes to be the boss as much as possible. She's actuallly stuffed up 2 Valentine's Days for my wife and I, because she didn't approve of the plans. I should stress at this point we haven't had our church wedding, only the civil service. The church wedding will help, I hope. But if there are still problems we're going to consider moving out on our own. Can you reccomend anywhere in Quito?

8) I have a Sport Management degree. Currently I have a teaching job but I really want to work in sport. Can you recommend any websites or places that I can look at for better work?

That's all for now. I have to go to work and I won't have wifi for at least a few hours, so it will be a while before I can reply to anyone. Thanks for your help and I look forward to meeting you

Matt
