what do not like about ecuador

Please read... this was our community email... i changed the names:
Below is a disburbing SKYPE chat EXPAT Y had with EXPAT X last night regarding the Earthquake situation. EXPAT X used to live here, and is friends with many on our list.

---------------------

EXPAT Y: Hi Gaby, thank you for being so engaged in the communication. I know you're busy, but I do have a question for you. I'm composing an email to all of my friends in Germany about the situation here, and ask them for donations. I don't want to stick with the "official numbers" of victims, but don't want to go overboard with "tens of thousands of dead" either. Since you're at the pulse and maybe better at discerning between facts and fiction, what is your current estimate of people who have died? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Also, I've come to the conclusion that the Cruz Roja Ecuatoriana might be the best option for donations, as the smaller groups seem to have difficulty distributing the funds and getting them to where they are needed most. What is your opinion on that?

Be BLESSED, Corazon!

Expat X: Hello girl. well I can tell you just in Portoviejo Defensa Civil has unearth like 1500 people. The gov. is doing a massive media cover up of the situation as many countries had give money to him (credits) for infrastructure and he can't justify those expenses. Now my tax lawyer had informed me that there is a tax of 40 to 46 % on donations depending the amount Most of the donations are not being distributed. Peoples donations are being stolen by militars and other gov. and there is even rapports of stuff donated like food is being re sold in some places. It is an scandal. Any of the monetary relieve has being conducted to the real victims and I'm afraid the gov. is cashing it all to cover the huge deficit his administration has. This is info from volunteers on the ground. So maybe you can organize a private found rising to be used to give to families to rebuild their houses after the cleaning up is done. Right now there is an overflow of everything, in a few weeks there will be no more donations and the real humanitarian crisis will begin. The mobile clinic I'm getting money for is stock in Bahia and has no people coming to get attention. Militars are surrounding the van "for protection" and they are just siting in a big "cancha" doing nothing. It is so frustrating. Mean while there is badly injured people getting nothing right now. It is weird.

Contact Pablo Escobar, he is organizing the second stage of the disaster relieve. People are going to need help getting back in track, and also maybe to finance people like you and me to re organize them and help with the healing of the more deep wounds (like sorrow and trauma)

He is in Quito, but maybe we can join affords to create something of value without the gov. intervention.
