Parent's Review of The British School of Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Netherlands

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

The British School of Amsterdam

In what town or city is this school located?

Amsterdam

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International, but lots of British (of course) and Japanese

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre K to 1st Grade and 2nd to 6th (sep. location)

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most live near by so bike or walk.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Excellent condition in a very safe building. Great decoration, computer rooms, art, music, secure playground. There are numerous after-school activitites.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Unfortunately the school and the admin are very unorganized and very chaotic. Which is a shame for such a nice school. Nobody wants to take responsibility. ie: lost uniforms, playground disputes, notification of important days at school.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The moms seem a bit snobby, which is probably more insecurity since they all look like they spend a lot of time eating?? My son attended a very distingushed school in London and we didn't encounter any snobs. Some parents try to have get-togethers, but it all seems very fake.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

There are some excellent teachers and some not so good teachers, which can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Try to have an interview.
