Cell Phone Use ~ Ecuador Communications

View/Add Comments (0 Comments) |

A great way to satay in touch with folks in Ecuador -- people you meet, making reservations for your you night's lodging, a good local taxi driver for safe and secure pick ups, emergency 911, and so forth -- is to bring an inexpensive UNLOCKED celular phone to Ecuador with you. Once in Ecuador it is easy top go to a local CLARO phone store in the Mall or in a stand alone shop on the street -- the most popular of the local celular phone companies -- and buy a SIM chip for your phone. This will give you an in-country phone number. Then you simply buy minutes (referred to as SALDO) and you can callout and receive calls. Calls received costnothing. Texts and Calls to other Claro phones are a few cents. Calls to other services are more expensive and calls back to the States cost more -- so make long distrance calls through the computer using SKYPE. But for your day to day calls in country, this is a great way to keep costs low and to start making contacts and friends!
