Shame on you

While I have been considering living in one of South American countries after retirement and surfing web sites, I noticed one thing really unpleasant from these internation living spcialist or people doing business for wanna-be expatriates. Without exceptions every one of those ventures lists as one of benefit in living in ecomically deprived countries having full time maid at cheap price.

You may be helping locals by having a maid as creating job opportunity but is it really one of the facts you can brag about? Have you thought about your mother had to work as a maid to feed you and your siblings? Is that a third world country really needs to imorove their welbeing for the future?

I am not saying not to hire a cheap maid but it would be better not to mention about it. What happened all the spirituality like Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, etc? And what good is it to spend all the tax money to send our young people to help third world people while the gringos exploiting those people with poverty on the back?

Low living cost is definitely a factor to move and I am also planning to move after my retirement. But can we be a member of those locals without living in fancy gated community while helping them with our experience and knowledge and enjoy retirement at the same time? Do we really need all the luxuries to enjoy our life? Then why don't we just stay in States?

I wonder whether our ancestors were proud of providing food and shelter to slaves in plantation. Yes they need our dollars and help but we don't have to show off our superiority. Give them respects and let them be themselves. I don't even like all the missionaries going third world countries to convert locals' belief.

I am not an activist, humanist, radicals, liberal democrat, black, hispanic, or any sort of that type. Just typical blue color with college education. But I could not stop having a bad taste whenever I come across those web sites.
