Wheelchairs and Ecuador

Hi, I am planning on moving to Ecuador in the very near future, but have a few concerns about life in Ecuador in a wheelchair.

As I understand it, elevators are very scarce & pretty much only found in the cities.

I have picked Cuenca as my destination based on all my data so far, however, I may have to change my mind if I find that they do not accommodate wheelchairs in the city.

I have heard other folks talking about their apts & the elevators in the buildings. I guess I pretty much need to know if anyone else has this situation & find out if there are some good tips & suggestions out there.
