Coastal Healthcare Facilities &........

I have been gleaning a great deal of useful information from this forum, thanks to all who take the time to reply. For those of us who are still only in the research stage of a possible "south of zero" change in address, your firsthand responses and perspectives are invaluable. I have a question concerning coastal healthcare, and coastal shopping facilities (groceries, supplies, fresh produce, etc). My partner and I are exploring a second home in Ecuador. Cuenca is very impressive and the as I have already discovered, offers great shopping facilities, and excellent healthcare in a number of hospitals favored by the expat population. We are however, very attracted to the coastal communities and I can't find any information regarding hospitals and healthcare in the major communities (Salinas, Manta, Bahia, etc). Are there facilities available in any of these communities that you would consider on the same par as the care one would get in Cuenca or Quito?
And I assume there must be shopping venues along the coast that are satisfactory? Like I said, I'm taking groceries, staples, etc.,....necessities.
