TAXI THEFT SALINAS

Here's what happened to me: I took a taxi home from my Saturday nite gig at Hostal Aqui, on the Malecon in Salinas. Driver and I unloaded what I thought was all my music equipment. My little kitten Gizmo ran out the door so I ran after him and that's when taxi took off with $1800 worth of my equipment including my brand new Windows 8 laptop!

Lucky I managed to get his license plate and flagged down Policia on the Malecon. They were very nice, took all my information and told me to stand by my cell phone that night because they would call if they catch him. Sure enough, 3am Policia call say they caught him on the highway to Supermaxi. My Ecuadorian friend Lucy and I rush out and I ID the guy and the car but the stolen equipment is not in the car. Policia take me, Lucy and the bad guy to the policia compound where there are about 25 taxi drivers and the bad guys family shaking the fence and hollering at me! They want to intimidate me to not press charges. It's now 4am and a little scary but I was mad and, what was probably not my wisest move, I flipped them the bird.

I don't know what the Policia told the bad guy but he eventually "phoned a friend" who bought in my equipment! Happy ending? Not even close.

Policia dragged bad guy off to jail but also kept my stolen music equipment as evidence. By now sun has come up and Lucy and I were supposed to go home but we certainly were not about to take a taxi because most of them were still shaking the fence and hollering at me. Policia drove us home and walked thru my house before they would let me go in.

There is a lot more to this story and I will post it soon. Must say I was very impressed with the police work and the way they treated me, the Gringa victim.
