Poochie -- a final message from the Intrepid Traveling Boxer-boy

Hard week here at the Ocean Hideaway, Poochie the intrepid traveling boxer boy left us on his final amzing voyage yesterday morning. He was in my arms and Gina-girl the spoiled rotten rescue rotti was by his side. Dr. Jorge from El Pibe came out to the beach to assist and he passed over to the sounds my words, the birds and the waves and wind. He is intrerred here within view of his favorite spots.

Poochie was more than pet, he was my companion -- he was there through my own chronic illness being diagnosed (yes I did come tto Ecuador for my health), through the death of my father and my mother, through many travels aroudn the USA and ultimately here to Ecuador.

I am often asked if I think it is the right thing to bring a pet with you when you move. All I can say in response is, will your pet be better or worse without you? Will they survive the abandonment, is it more humane for them to remain with you?

There are trials and tribulations to bringing down a pet -- flying them in being the biggest, lack of immunity to new diseases, the next, finding adequate food and safe places to live and walk and play (with a feral population and drivers who can hit them on the street)

Me? I would make the samee choice again. Poocchie had a life on the beach like none other. He met hundreds of new firends from alll over the world and was a true ambassador of the breed. People may not know my name but they all knew "Puchi". And I extended his life because I could afford care for him regularly so knew when he wasokay and when the end was near -- and when it was time to cut loose his attachment to his mortal frame and let his soul fly onward.

He came home from the vet on Friday, he was home for Shabbat -- roused a bit on Sunday but left the house on early in the madrugada of Monday... and entered immortality to play over the rainbow bridge at 10:30 am Sept 30, 2013

His memory is and will continue to be a blessing to all who had the privilege to know him... and all who will come to know of him. His spirit shall live on in our continued efforts towards canine rescue and rehoming of dogs here in Ecuador, especially of large breed dogs.

Thank you for allowing me to share this with you all today,

Susan
