Excited

I have been reading the different postings in a number of Forums for about 30 days now. I've gone to a retire overseas convention and have been excited about Ecuador ever since. My wife does not want to join me for a while with the grand kids an all. So I get to do the adventures on my own.

My plan was to arrive in April for two weeks and spend one week in the mountains and one week on the coast. Now I'm leaning towards spending the first trip solely in Cuenca. Plus I see that the plane cost are almost half in January. This just begs me to come early now.

I just hit the 62 mark in my life and want to get away from the states but I don't want to be too dumb about it.

With the altitude being what it is in Cuenca I expect my movements to be hampered (bum knee and out of shape). I just purchased Pimsleur and will be studying hard.

What do you think about a person throwing some clothes in a bag and jumping on a plane with a few dollars in his pocket and landing in Cuenca? Can I survive for a couple of weeks. I don't know how to plan for something like this so I'm just going to be looking for the experience more than anything. I have a goal of living there before August with just my SOS and I need to get things moving now.

Thanks
