Ecuador versus Mexico

We've have been out of Ecuador for under two days and in Mexico. So far what I have found seems to completely blow out of the water all this talk about Ecuador being a great place to live or retire. To start with, groceries are much cheaper here in Baja Mexico, rent is slightly higher, cars are much much cheaper and people seem to be friendlier. I never ever saw courtesy in Ecuador, especially on the road, but that's all I see here is courtesy. Taxi's are about double of what I paid in Cuenca, about $7 to go across town. It's not all roses, our experience at the airport and with the car rental agency is a story for another time. The weather is great right now, under 80 degrees and little humidity. It didn't take long to realize that made a good decision to leave Ecuador and move to Mexico. From my first 6 months or so in Ecuador I realized that the great living in that country was just hype. There are people making a living off of that hype so they have to keep it going I suppose.

Before I end this little update, I have to say that I was shocked to see how clean this part of Mexico is. I would have to say that the places I lived in Ecuador were definitely filthy compared to here. It's a very pleasant experience.
