Coming to Ecuador January 15

Hi,

After lurking around on the forums and reading books & blogs, I've made the decision to move to Ecuador. I've been to Peru, Argentina, Costa Rica and Mexico. My longest stay was for one month in Peru, which I loved. Miraflores is way expensive now so I'm coming to Ecuador for a month to see if I like it and scope it out.

I'm 59 and would like advice on the best places to live. I've read a lot about Cuenca, Quito, Manta. I plan to explore all 3 and maybe more. I fly into Quito (because I'm a Delta member) and branch out from there.

I speak some spanish and it gets better when I'm in country. I think it's fun to immerse myself in the Latin culture.

Any advice on where to go or how to proceed would be most appreciated.
