Quiet living in Ecuador?

I have done days of research on life in Ecuador as a retired expat dependent on Social Security (low income in the States). With one exception, living in Ecuador sounds very appealing, but that exception is critical for me: high noise level. I cherish peace and quiet and need a nearly silent home environment conducive to my academic and contemplative lifestyle. I have been reading expat reports online that say Ecuadorean cities are very noisy with multiple car alarms, barking dogs, loud music and long parties both day and night. I imagine that living on the outskirts of a city brings increases safety risks and more difficulty accessing public transportation and taxis. So I would very much appreciate any information or advice from people now living in Ecuador regarding relatively neighborhoods, villages or towns, especially in the Loja and Cuenca region to which I am partial (but not commmitted). Thank you!
