Traveling to Ecuador to see if I want to retire there.

1) do I need a tourist visa or anything else? For a 3 week visit

2) does anyone have good contacts in Quito or Cuenca that can discuss health insurance and auto insurance?

3) do either Quito or Cuenca have Ex Pat’s clubs that meet regularly? If so when and where

Thank you in advance for your help

1. a 90 day tourist visa is given on entry.

2. In Cuenca there are gringo nights at more than one watering hole. The expat frequented places stand out...just ask

3. Again, just ask and you will make the connections. people are happy to share info and experience.

In Quito internations dot org seems to offer the sort of social support net you're seeking. It is a bit of business, particularly for locals feeding off lonely expats, but it has its place and you'll meet people and learn at least some ropes.

The key thing when moving abroad is to begin aggressively taking the initiative in all matters, administrative and social. Get whatever you can in the way of leads or entertainment here or other websites as you are doing, but assume these sort of responsibilities for yourself and don't expect people to take care of you.

Google and internal search engines will be your friends in all these things, and having the blend of formal and informal education needed to read critically and otherwise get to the bottom of things, you will make the right decisions, be it Ecuador or elsewhere abroad. Or not.

With this approach and attitude, the magic will happen and you will find yourself where you need to be, and the people you find yourself around will the right ones.
