Planning a 6 month visit starting June 2023

Hi, I am a 67 year old single man who has just completed open heart surgery. Coming up to the surgery I decided that I want to take an extended trip to South America following my recovery (which is going well). I would like to anchor my trip in Ecuador where I have considered retiring permanently for some time. I am working on learning Spanish. In addition to spending time in Ecuador and visiting the Galapagos. I want to see the Gate of the Sun, in Bolivia, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Nazca Petroglyphs and wine country in Chile & Argentina. Also open to additional suggestions. And see if I am cut out to be an expat. I noticed in some other posts that a visitors visa is for 3 months, but that if you cross borders extending that may be fairly simple. If anyone has some experience with this I would love to hear it. Also would love a suggestion for a temperate location where a longer term furnished rental could be arranged in advance. If anything I have said is deeply full of crap, please disabuse me of my error. I am a singer and occasional actor/director and would love to connect with both natives and expats following those particular muses.
