guitars in Bartolo?

On my bucket list right now is guitar practice. I have a guitar in the states but left it there on my recent return to Vilcabamba. I had the vague thought of going to the famous Guitar making town, Bartolo. An easy day trip from Cuenca by bus it is south of Cordeleg and Sigsig. The town has been known for the many traditional guitar makers living there. A search on youtube brings up interesting views of their little shops. And...I understand, a quality beginner's guitar which would go for $300 elsewhere might be had for under a hundred in Bartolo. Anyone been there?,done that?
