Riyadh,Al Hamra compound and a social life!

My husband and I are moving to Riyad at the end ofAugust and will (hopefully) be living in Al Hamra Compound. We are in our 30's and don't have children.
I would really appreciate info on how Al Hamra is to live in and also developing a social life in Riyadh in general. I have lived in Kuwait before so am somewhat aware of the constraints that we will face however I had a very active social life there.
We are outgoing people who have many friends back home in London, we go out a lot and love having dinner parties, BBQ's etc. We want to make a really wide group of friends who also like to have fun and enjoy everything that they an get out of the place they are living in. We particularly like camping and hope to spend time out in the desert at weekends.
What is the best way for us to meet other sociable and adventurous people who want to get everything they can out of living in such a diverse and fascinating country as Saudi?
Also, can anyone advise us on the best way of going about buying a second hand 4x4 once we get to Riyadh. We will get an allowance from our company.
