What advice would you offer others about banking as an expat in your country? What do you wish you had known about banking when you first arrived?

When I left the states I canceled my phone and got a Philippine phone number. This caused a problem with my bank and credit cards and xoom. When ever I used one of these sometimes they would want to send a security code to my old phone # that doesn't exist any longer. My bank changed it so they would send it to my email address. The credit cards and xoom would not send the code to an email address or to my Philippine phone number.. I found a way around it but it is a pain. As soon as I get my ACR card I will get a local credit card. I guess I would suggest you handle this before you leave your home country.
