Hey fillup94577: how did an american end up there in valencia"? and i know there are white people hanging out in that area but most of them are priest(father Franco, wonderfull guy) of people not to be trusted(dutch guy called kennemer). So better visit davao or CDO once in a while because you are an explorer

BertelBertelsen, thank you for the info. I guess I will have to frequent CDO more often. I ended up in Valencia because this is where my wife's family is at (can't pick em). Alexifran, there are condominiums here in Valencia City as well as in Malaybalay, as far as prices, I couldn't tell you, I don't know anyone who rents. Unless you have family here, I would say CDO is a better option (more activities/entertainment/foreigners). Thank you for the replies.

I'm Keith., English guy living in Canada. Looking to move to Philippines in 2 years. My spouse of 7 yrs is from Mindinao (Maranding).
We are looking closely at Malaybalay and Valencia City (and areas) not least of all cos it's cooler. I'd me most pleased to here comments/experiences about living in those areas

It is very nice and cool most of the time. I have noticed that on days that it's gonna rain, the nice cool wind stops, so it does get hot/humid on those days. Before coming here, I bought a nice air conditioner for our room and so far, we have used it very little due to the fact that most nights there is a nice, cool breeze.... Malaybalay is larger than Valencia City, although there are 2 new malls coming to Valencia City, one is a SM and the other is a Robinson's mall (there is already a Robinson's grocery store here). Hopefully at least one of those malls will include a movie theatre because right now, we'd have to travel to CDO for that, thats like 4 hours. The traffic right now through Valencia City is horrible due to road construction/expansion, related to Valencia city expansion... I believe in a few years Valencia will be much larger than Malaybalay, they are spending tons on infrastructure here. For television, I use Cignal Satellite, they have a good pre-paid service, cost is as little as like 400 pesos/30 days and goes up to 900 pesos/30 days, they have like 100 channels and 20 of those are HD, although since moving here I spend very little time watching TV. Internet, you would not believe how fast it is, I use Globe internet stick post-paid, its 1,500 pesos/month. At peak times, like 5 pm internet does slow down, but most of the time its super fast, I've downloaded files at 900 kbps. They have put up a lot of Globe antennas all over Valencia so its a very good signal. I will try to PM you on other things I have learned so far.

Thanks so much for the response. I'd b pleased to read all you are prepared to write.

Remind me: You live in Malaybalay?

The concern/uncertainty I have about Mindinao is the Muslim thing. Which, as example, on/in Negros Oriental the namesake Valencia (about 10kms north os Dumaguete does not have.

As I said my spouse is from Mindinao and her family are there. I have visited there/them for a month last year.

I read lots of postings about "be sure you want to move to Philippines.." etc etc but for me a huge part of our decision is made: My meager savings and pension dictate living somewhere other than Canada; somewhere our few $$$ can be maximized

How long have you lived there? Any regrets?
