Advice on Relocation?

Hi all. I am a US citizen, and am considering relocating to South Africa. I have lived overseas a good bit, and I usually enjoy a good adventure. I have a decent income from a disability pension (and a pretty good limp). I prefer to live in the countryside, if it is safe. My SA friends recommended looking into one of the smaller towns around Capetown. Are the smaller towns up in the mountains safe and secure, maybe around Franschoek, or Villiersdorp? (I enjoy the mountains.)

Also, can anyone recommend a good immigration attorney?
And where can a guy read up on the most recent immigration requirements? Thank you.

Hello -
I am an American who, with my wife, retired to the Cape Town area 17 years ago. We actually live in Somerset West surrounded by mountains on three sides and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side. We are about 40 minutes drive from Cape Town and close to Franschoek and Villersdorp. We have encountered no significant personal crime or security problems since we arrived. I do love the mountains in the area. We have absolutely no regrets about moving here from the USA. Let me know what questions you have. D. Mayes

Hi,
The best person to talk with about legal aspects of relocation to South Africa is Stefanie Darbandi ()

She has been of great help to several people I know. I'm sure Stephanie can assist.

I should warn you that "Home Affairs" (the organization responsible for matters of immigration) is not in the best shape and moves very slowly, partly because of Covid. --Dave
